The Race

Enjoy running for twelve or twenty four hours with autumn’s colorful foliage as the backdrop.  The course twists and turns through Camp Brady Saunders 720 acres of IMG_4648snipesbridge.JPGrolling Piedmont woodlands, which has numerous meandering streams, and two lakes.

24 Hours of Momentum proved to be a hit in 2007.  This year RunRideRace has added a 12-hour event.  12 and 24 Hours of Momentum is a team-relay or solo running race that brings out the tenacious determination and adventure in every competitor!  Runners compete to run as many laps as possible in a 12 or 24-hour time frame.

Make it a family affair!  12 and 24 Hours of Momentum is an all-day and all-night event for competitors and spectators.  Bring your family and friends and set up camp or rent a cabin.  For athletes, spectators and crew, it will be a 24-hour festival where you will witness runners pushing their personal limits of endurance.   There will be music, food, and games for spectators to enjoy while they root for their favorite team or soloist.

Whatever your level there is a category designed for you.  You can choose to race as a Solo runner, or create a team of up to ten people.  This year we have added a corporate challenge and running store challenge.  Each participant is required to complete at least one lap.

The Course 5 mile loop

You will be running of a 5 mile loop.  It will contain fireroads, double and single track trails with no long climbs or rock grardens.

GENERAL RULES

Pacers

Pacers are allowed after 12:00 a.m. Sunday 5th for solo runners only. All pacers must register by Saturday at the registration table and will receive a number and aid station privileges.

Captains

Each team must have a team captain. The captain is responsible for all the teams actions and will be held responsible for any rule infractions and all communications with race officials. Race updates will be communicated to the captain who is then responsible to inform all team members.

Pre-race Meeting Saturday Oct 4th 11:00am at the Start/Finish area

Although everyone is welcome, the team captain must attend the pre-race meeting. If the team is traveling from outside the central VA area please inform the race director about your arrival time. We will attempt to make arrangements for those who will be unable to make the meeting but the team is ultimately responsible for any information given at the meeting, not the race director.

Recording Laps

Racers must log-in on each lap at transition located at the Start/Finish area. The team “baton” must be passed from one racer to the other within the transition area and a timing official must witness. There will be a running countdown clock, so we’ll have updated teams accumulative times and laps posted.

It is the team's responsibility to verify that each racer is logged-in and logged-out correctly. Each racer must clearly state your number and wait until the race official acknowledges that your time and number are recorded correctly.

There will also will be random number checks along the course throughout the race. Races must have race number and “baton”.

Aid

Water and food may be supplied to any racer, by anyone, at transition and the aid station. However, racers must stay well clear of the course when taking food or water. A strict Leave No Trace policy will be implemented. 24 Hours of Momentum will supply an unmanned aid station with water, Accelerade and energy one place on the course and at the transition area.

Bib Number

Racers must display their race numbers at all times on their front.  We let this slide in 2007 but not in 2008!

Local Laws

Federal, state and county laws and ordinances must be followed at all times.

Staying on course

While running a lap, racers must stay on the designated course. Any racer that goes off the designated course (i.e. short-cutting) will result in a disqualification of that racer's team.

Protests

Official protests must be in writing and can only be made by team captains only and must be made directly to the Race Director by 12:30pm on Sunday Oct 5th. Results are final as of 12:45pm Sunday Oct 5th.

Race Director

The race director has the final say in any ruling, including rulings made by the co-director.

Quiet Hours

Quiet hours at night, will be imposed from 11:00 p.m. Saturday until 6:00 a.m. Sunday. During this time, noise must be kept to a minimum but the fun will continue. We will let the music play all night but at a reduced level.

Night Running

Racers entering the course 1 1/2 hours before sunset on Saturday and up to one-half hour before sunrise on Sunday carry a light source and it must be in good working order.

Consecutive Laps

A racer may run consecutive laps, but must log-out at transition after his first lap in order to log-in for his second lap. If the racer does not do this, only one lap will be counted. Solo racers will do this every lap.

Baton

If a “baton” is lost during a lap, teams may be issued a new “baton” but will have to start a new lap at the transition. Any distance run on a the started lap previous to the loss of the baton will be void.

Teams have the option to cancel a partial lap once it has started. Racers must notify the transition that a new runner is beginning and must log-in and start at transition. The canceled lap does not count as a completed lap.

Finish/Awards

Racers must complete his/her lap by 1pm. No partial laps will be counted. Each team's final placing will be determined by the number of laps the team has completed and the order of finish times for the team's last lap. For example, a team that has completed 20 laps with a finish time of 12:20 p.m. would beat a team that completed 20 laps, with a finish time of 12:30 p.m. A team that completed 21 laps, with a finish time of 12:00 p.m., would beat them both. The awards ceremony will begin promptly at 1:15 p.m.

Unforeseeable circumstances

In the case of unforeseeable circumstances due to weather or other extenuating circumstances that prevents the safe continuation the race, race officials may end the race at any given time.
